Smith County Jury Reschedule Information
We will only reschedule you one time for your current summons date, under certain circumstances. If you have already been rescheduled once you will need to submit a letter of request for the reason why you need to reschedule a second time, it should be emailed to it will then be forwarded to the Qualifying Judge for consideration. If you do not receive a reply you must appear in person. No person is excused from jury service until receiving confirmation of receipt of your request from the court and that the request to be excused has been approved by the judge. Failing to appear for jury service is punishable by contempt of court.

The schedule below indicates the date you would be rescheduled to if you had to reschedule. To request rescheduling of your jury summons, you may submit the request online from the Online Jury Response Form tab below or you may download the form provided and mail it by following the instructions noted on the Jury Response by Mail tab below.

  1. No person is excused from jury service upon the submission of this Response Form. You must receive a telephone call or email from the court indicating that you are excused from appearing.
  2. Using this service less than 48 hours prior to your appearance date may not allow adequate time for court personnel to contact you. This especially applies if your appearance date is on a Monday and you use this service on Friday. If you do not receive notification that you have been excused, you must appear as ordered and present your excuse in person.
  3. All excuses are subject to verification. Supporting documentation (school id, travel itineraries, doctor's notes) should be faxed to (903) 590-1661. Please include you name on any information submitted.
  4. Make certain that you are excused from jury service before you decide not to show. Ignoring a jury summons is punishable by contempt of court which includes a $100 fine.
