Road and Bridge Strategic Planning Project
RB Strategic PlanningProject

As part of Smith County’s commitment to strategic planning and to ensure that the County road infrastructure remains solid for decades to come, Smith County has undertaken a strategic planning process to develop a Road & Bridge Plan that identifies specific road and bridge infrastructure improvements needed in the County, sets out a timeline for making those improvements, and identifies the funding source(s) for such improvements. The County’s present efforts are built upon a January 2016 report from Atkins Engineering that incorporated detailed road data from 2014-2015, as well as input from a Citizen Advisory Committee in 2015 about County R&B infrastructure needs. The County is now seeking additional input from all citizens before finalizing a working draft plan for presentation again to Smith County citizens beginning in the fall of 2017. Once a working draft plan is developed, additional citizen input about the specifics of the draft plan will be solicited throughout the fall of 2017 on-line and through several meetings and open forums to ensure citizens have multiple opportunities to have their voice heard. Only after these two phases of citizen input will the County then finalize a Road & Bridge Strategic Plan for final recommendation.

Citizens can access the input form below in electronic format or can pick up a paper version in the Commissioners Court office area in the Courthouse Annex located at 200 E. Ferguson, 1st Floor, Tyler, Texas 75702 or any of the offices of the Justices of the Peace located around the County. All forms should be submitted to Casey Murphy either electronically at CMurphy@smith-county.com or in person at the Commissioners Court offices. Citizens are also encouraged to attend one of the multiple meetings scheduled in the coming months to voice their concerns and suggestions in person. See below for more information and to keep up with the Road and Bridge Strategic Planning Project.
