The Smith County Commissioners Court on September 30, 2025, approved contracts for six county roads to be reconstructed as part of the Road and Bridge Bond Program.
Texana Land & Asphalt Inc. was awarded two contracts, coming in as the lowest bidder on both projects.
Five bids were received for improvements to County Road 26 (from Farm-to-Market Road 850 to CR 21) and for CR 27 (from its intersection with CR 26, to the end of the road). This $1.69 million project includes improving 5.16 miles.
CR 26 will be widened and reconstructed with cement stabilization of the existing base material. It will then be paved with new asphalt and will also have striping and buttons installed. CR 27 will also be reconstructed and overlaid with asphalt.
Construction should begin within the next two to three months on this project.
Texana Land & Asphalt was the lowest bidder of four bids received for CR 313 (from FM 14 to FM 2015) and CR 3147 (from its intersection with CR 313 to its end). The $2.3 million project includes improving 7.237 miles of road.
Both county roads will be widened, with cement stabilization of the blended existing pavement and base materials and then paved with hot mix asphalt. CR 313 will also have striping and buttons installed.
Construction should begin within the next one to two months.
A.E. Shull & Company was awarded two contracts.
The company was the lowest out of six bids for CR 2193. The existing roadway pavement and base will be mixed, and cement stabilized and then have an asphalt pavement overlay. The $399,118 project will include improving 1.345 miles of road.
Work on this roadway should begin within the next two to three months.
A.E. Shull & Company came in as the winning bid out of six bids for CR 172.
The existing roadway pavement and base materials will be mixed and then cement stabilized before being paved with asphalt. The $462,256 project will improve 1.572 miles of road.
Work on this roadway should begin within the next one to two months.
The Commissioners Court also approved a contract with Casey Sloan Construction for site improvements at the new Road and Bridge facility. Work will include installing security lighting, removing trees, landscaping and irrigation. The contract is for $264,777.
