Seized Dogs Rescued

The Italian Greyhound Rescue Foundation recently rescued all 44 dogs that were seized by the Smith County Animal Control and Shelter.

On September 19, 2025, Animal Control seized 22 Italian Greyhounds, 19 Whippets and three Standard Poodles from a home in Troup.

During court proceedings, Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace James Meredith turned over the dogs to Smith County Animal Control and Shelter and once they could be released, people from the Italian Greyhound Rescue Foundation drove from Austin and picked them up on October 22. The rescue had a waiting list of people wanting to adopt the dogs.
