The Smith County Commissioners Court is accepting applications from local agencies that help provide treatment and recovery support services for opioid addiction.
Several years ago, Smith County joined many states and other local political subdivisions to bring litigation against multiple large pharmaceutical distributors, manufacturers and pharmacy chains. Several settlements have been reached with Smith County, and the Commissioners Court has formulated a plan to disperse a portion of these funds.
There are multiple ways in which Smith County may utilize the funds, but early consensus of the Commissioners Court was to initially focus on providing treatment and recovery support services, such as residential and inpatient treatment, intensive outpatient treatment, outpatient therapy or counseling, and recovery housing that allows or integrates medication with other support services.
If you are a Smith County agency that would like to apply for these funds, visit: www.smith-county.com/government/elected-officials/commissioners-court/opioid-grant-funds-application and submit your application by Monday, November 17, 2025.
