Smith County to host Women Veterans Outreach Meeting
The Smith County Veterans Service Office will host a Veterans Outreach Meeting for women of the area who have served in the armed forces.
The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday, September 17, 2018, at the R.B. Hubbard “The HUB” Center, located at 304 East Ferguson Street in Tyler.
“This will give the women of the area an opportunity to discuss information and issues specifically addressing their needs and concerns,” said Catherine Thomas, Veterans Services Officer.
Earlier this summer, a series of meetings at various locations in the county were held to provide information to citizens as part of the county initiative “Operation Reciprocity.”
“Operation Reciprocity: Serving Those Who Served Us” is an outreach initiative for the local veteran community. It seeks to ensure that the office is providing the highest quality customer service to local veterans and their families and, when needed, to serve as a bridge to other veterans organizations that can assist veterans in need. There are more than 17,000 veterans in Smith County.
The Veteran Services Office provides information and advocacy services to veterans and their families throughout the claims, appeals and benefit processes with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs.
The Smith County Veteran Services Office, located at 210 E. Ferguson, is open from 7:30 a.m. to noon and 1-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and can be reached at 903-590-2953.
