Kari Perkins
Kari Perkins was appointed as the Smith County Budget Officer in 2024 and has more than 18 years of experience in county government. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in business and a master’s degree in management, both from Texas A&M University – Commerce.
Purpose: The Budget Office is responsible for the communication of the county’s budgetary policies, operational and financial plans through the publication of the annual budget. The office supports the Commissioners Court with fiscal planning, monitoring, and policy analysis that assists the court in making well-informed policy and financial decisions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Preparation of the annual Smith County Budget
- Distribution of the budget manual and materials to all county departments
- Gathering and processing budget requests from all county departments
- Preparing the Preliminary Recommended, Proposed and Revised for Adoption Budgets for Commissioners Court
- Documenting departmental budget hearings to discuss funding levels
- Preparing adopted budget for publication
- Preparing the Capital Improvement Plan to assist the Commissioners Court in long-term capital needs of the county
